Dan Krause's
twenty-five year non-profit career has been characterized by
pioneering development, creative innovation, and bottom-line
results.
As a
development professional, Krause has raised over $21 million
dollars in a development career that started in 1988. Krause
has served Christian schools of all sizes throughout his
career. He has effectively orchestrated 16 capital campaigns as
consultant, development staff, or key volunteer.
As the Founder
and President of GraceWorks Ministries, Krause has normed
parental satisfaction for Christian schools in America, with
over 25,000 parents and other constituents participating in a
GraceWorks' parent-centric survey products, both the Parent
Satisfaction and Referral Survey (PSRS) and the Differential
Diagnostic yearly survey. Differential Diagnostics pinpoints
school program elements and experiences most correlated with
willingness (or unwillingness) to refer.
Krause was the
co-author of the
Marketing Christian Schools: The Definitive Guide,
Volume 1, the most practical, hands-on guide to the topic
currently available. Dr. Daniel Roth of the LCMS calls the
Guide "the most complete and practical tool for marketing I have
ever experienced." GraceWorks has translated the action steps
of the book into eMc2: Marketing Coaching and Clinics Program,
a completely online system designed to empower busy volunteers.
Krause is a
national speaker on Christian school topics to various Christian
denominations and school organizations, including ASCI, Roman
Catholics, WELS, LC-MS, and the Van Lunen Fellows. A trainer,
he travels 20 - 30 times a year on-site to train entire boards
and staffs on marketing, fundraising, leadership, and innovation
techniques and principles.
A natural
developer, Krause has innovated his entire professional life.
Krause was instrumental in developing the first skilled nursing
unit for the life-long deaf in Southern California (Walnut
Manor, Anaheim). As a volunteer with the Los Angeles Chapter of
the National Society of Fundraising Professionals in 1991,
Krause developed the first all-day seminar specifically
targeting the needs of minority fundraisers in Southern
California.
In addition to
ongoing and capital fund development, Krause has provided
effective marketing, planning, and leadership development
consultation to many clients. Before serving as a full-time
consultant, Krause served nine years as Director of Development.
Dan spearheaded
the effort to develop a world-class public relations training
kit for churches, schools, and ministries, the
Tell It!
Kit. The kit
is considered by many experts to be the best resource presently
available to pastors and principals who desire to bring the good
news of their ministry to local secular television stations.
Hundreds of volunteers have learned effective major gift work
through Krause's monograph and seminars on Succeeding at Major
Gifts.
Out of a
deep passion and call, Krause founded GraceWorks Ministries
in April, 2000 to provide world-class innovation to schools
and churches. At present, the gathering of leaders that is
GraceWorks has attracted six top professionals with well
over a century of combined experience. To date, Krause has
successfully worked with hundreds of non-profit ministries,
largely Christian schools, but also churches and mission
groups. |

Krause jokes that he first started serving
Christian schools at age 14 -- cleaning bathrooms!
Professionally, he served his first Christian school in 1988. |
Krause is a
Summa Cum Laude 1983 graduate of Concordia University, Seward,
Nebraska, with majors in sociology and psychology. He earned a
Master's Degree from the School of World Missions, Fuller
Seminary, Pasadena, California, focusing on cross-cultural
studies, Christian leadership, and church growth. In the fall
of 2008, Dan started his Ph. D. studies in Educational Research,
Leadership and Policy at the University of Colorado, Colorado
Springs.
Dan and his
family are active members of New Life Church in Colorado
Springs, CO. New Life was chosen as one of 600 “excellent
congregations" throughout the nation in a major Lilly Endowment
sponsored study of healthy congregations.
Dan Krause and
GraceWorks' foundational verse is Ephesians 2:10:
For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good
works,
which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Krause firmly
believes that all restoration, all work with any Kingdom
significance, is firmly rooted in the Lord Jesus Christ (John
15). While he thoroughly understands secular fundraising
techniques and principles, he is deeply committed to thoroughly
operating according to God's leading, God's Word, prayer, and
holy living.
After 15 years
of ministry as a Christian early childhood education director
and teacher, Dan's wife, Brenda, now serves GraceWorks
Ministries as Preschool Consultant and Assistant to the
President as well as her family as a homemaker. The Krauses have
four very active children: Kathleen, 19; Christopher, 16;
Nicholas,11; and Zachary, 6.
